Art, Design & ArchitectureA prestigious legacyThe founders of the resort, Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas, commissioned the renowned Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer to design the resort. He is best known for major architectural creations (the “Palais de l'Unesco” in Paris, the Bijenkorf in Rotterdam or the Whitney Museum of New York), but also for his work on furniture (the Wassily chair). Flaine is the only ski resort listed on the French Historical Monuments Inventory. The “Le Flaine” hotel and the Bételgeuse building, were built in 1968, and listed in the French Historical Monuments survey in 1991. A Picasso in the gardenEric and Sylvie Boissonnas brought art and culture to the resort. . The "Académie Internationale de Musique de Flaine" and "Musique à Flaine" continue the tradition and fill the summers in Flaine with music. Flaine Cultural CentreThe cultural centre hosts exhibitions with work of regional and international artists. The centre also holds a library with youth corner and reading lounge. A weekly guided visit through the centre takes you through the resort’s history, and around works of art. |
