The resort of Flaine was created in the 60s by Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas, big sponsors of the 20th century, lovers of modern art and classical music.
The first vocation of Flaine is to create in France a prototype of architecture, town planning and design, based on aesthetic choices and on environmental protection
The architect of Flaine is Marcel Breuer, a boss of Bauhaus, born in Pécs in Hungary in 1902, died in 1981 in New York. Marcel Breuer is known all over the world for his architectural realizations among which the Palace of Unesco in Bets or Whitney Museum in New York ; but also for his creations of furniture the chair of which tubulaire "Wassily".

An open-air museum
Flaine museum proposes an exceptional course of art and architecture, which bequeathed them creator Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas.
The Hotel " Le Flaine ", the emblem of Flaine with its terrace solarium overhanging a cliff, as well as the building " Bételgeuse ", the first buildings of Flaine inaugurated in 1969, were classified in the supplementary inventory of Historic monuments in 1991.
Marcel Breuer's historic Flaine received the label " Architectural heritage of the XXth century ", awarded by the Ministry of Culture in 2008.
The resort proposes a park of monumental sculptures : Jean Dubuffet's " Le Boqueteau ", " La Tête de Femme" of Pablo Picasso and " Les Trois Hexagones" of Victor Vasarely. The Auditorium " Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas " shelters a fountain Pol Bury.
Cultural center
From the first years of the resort, Sylvie Boissonnas is going to create "Art de Flaine's center" and to propose exhibitions of contemporary art. It is today the Cultural center of Flaine spaces out cultural and entertaining opened to all including :
· A space of exhibition presenting contemporary artists.
· A bilingual lending library (French, English), with a space youth and corners reading. Policemen, comic strips, albums youth are available Romanic, art books
· A video point with projection of films to the demand about the story of Flaine, its oeuvres of art, meetings with artists.
· A multimedia point with working computers.
Opened from Sunday till Friday, from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The tour of the resort The cultural center of Flaine suggests making you discover Flaine such as you have it can be never seen. A stroll to reveal the story of the resort and the creators, Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas ; include and appreciate Marcel Breuer's architecture ; go to meet oeuvres of modern art signed Picasso, Dubuffet, Vasarely or Bury.

The academies of classical music
The Classical music is present since the creation of the resort and occupies a place privileged in the story of Flaine. Succeeding the academy festival " The Music bath " (1987-1997), " L' Académie de musique de Flaine " and " Musique à Flaine " make of Flaine a only place where the summer lives in music.
During all August, these two academies immortalize the tradition of a high-level musical eaching, with always a requirement of quality working conditions for the professors and the trainees.
About twenty free concerts are proposed in the luxurious frame of the Auditorium " Eric and Sylvie Boissonnas ", concert hall of 500 places. Numerous public courses and trainees' hearings are proposed to the vacationers, to the Chapel, in the shows of the hotel Aujon, in the Auditorium.
