The Flaine ski resort will be open from 14 December 2024 to 21 April 2025.
The centre of the resort is at 1,600 m, the Col de Pierre Carrée at 1,844 m and the top of the pistes at 2,500 m.
Flaine's natural snow cover means that the resort is open for a very long time, guaranteeing excellent skiing throughout the season. 218 snow cannons, covering more than 89 hectares, complete the snow cover on the lower parts of the resort, ensuring maximum skiability throughout the season.
As soon as the first snow began to fall, the technical services of Les Carroz and Flaine, together with the services of the Conseil Général, began maintaining the roads. They ensure acceptable driving conditions between 6am and 9pm, even if the road is not perfectly dry all the time. It is advisable to use special equipment (snow chains) in all circumstances.
Flaine is a family resort that has been designed with practicality in mind. You can drive around the resort and load and unload your car right outside your accommodation for up to 1h30. You can then park your car in the outdoor car parks for the duration of your weekend or holiday.
Pay car parks in winter and free in summer are available at the entrance to each level of the resort (Forêt, Forum and Front de neige). So your accommodation is never far away. Free parking is available at the Col de Pierre Carrée.
In winter and summer, free shuttles run all day between Flaine Forêt, Flaine Les Gérats and the Col de Pierre Carrée. In summer only, free shuttle buses run between Les Carroz and Flaine. Each bus stop has one or more ideas for walks.
You will find all the prices for ski passes. You can either buy them from the Grand Massif ski area's online shop, or directly from the lift ticket offices during the season, from 14 December 2024 to 21 April 2025.
The Grandes Platières cable car provides pedestrian access to the summit of the Grandes Platières and its exceptional panoramic views of the major Alpine massifs, in particular the Mont-Blanc massif.
The ski resort of Flaine, located in the heart of the Alps, has slopes specially designed for beginners. There are 4 free lifts (tapis du pré, tapis du Bissac, tapis du Michalet, télébenne de Flaine Forum). Once you've built up your confidence, you can venture onto other slopes with a beginners' ski pass. Skiing requires a minimum amount of learning, and starting out on your own is risky business. The resort's ski schools and independent instructors offer ski and snowboard lessons for all levels, children and adults, and have a wealth of experience in supervising beginners. You can hire skis, poles, snowboards and boots for a day or a week from the many specialist shops in the resort.
Flaine is a ski-in/ski-out resort with a pedestrian centre on a human scale. Wherever you live, you're never far from the shops and ski slopes. Even if you're at the far end of the centre, you'll only have to walk a few hundred metres (by free shuttle bus). Flaine Les Gérats and the hamlet of Flaine are set back from the resort, but there is a regular free shuttle service between them and the start of the Flaine Forêt pistes (15 minutes away). The ski schools offer meeting places on several levels of the resort: Flaine Forêt and Flaine Forum.
Les P'tits Loups nursery welcomes children aged 18 months to 3 years (booking essential). The Belambra Panorama and the MMV Le Flaine hotel-clubs also have childcare facilities for their guests. A list of babysitters is available on request from the Tourist Office.
Buses, taxis and passenger transport companies are available during the season between Geneva airport, Cluses station and Flaine. Advance bookings are strongly recommended.
The Col de Pierre Carrée, at 1,844 m, is the highest and snowiest Nordic area in the Alps. The view of the Pre-Alps and the Arve Valley is breathtaking. There are 3 marked ‘skate’ and ‘classic’ runs for all levels, as well as several well-maintained and signposted walking trails. Access to the ski area is free by ski bus from the resort centre. For ski enthusiasts, the Agy site offers a further 30km of pistes, just 30 minutes from Flaine.
It's perfectly possible to take your dog for a walk in Flaine in winter, just head for the Col de Pierre Carrée (accessible by free shuttle bus, pets welcome). However, it is forbidden to take the Grandes Platières cable car with your pet, and you will be entering the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval/Passy National Nature Reserve.
The Flaine aquatic centre is located on the ground floor of the "Le Centaure" residence and is open to all resort customers. 2,000 m2 dedicated to well-being! An aquatic area with 25 m swimming pool and children's pool - sauna - hammam - whirlpool baths - beauty treatments - massages.
Every week during the season, the Art Centre offers visitors the chance to discover the heritage of this 20th century listed resort: art, architecture, design... with a free tour of Flaine.
The Flaine Summer Pass is available free of charge on arrival at your accommodation provider, if it is a partner of the Tourist Office. If the accommodation provider is not a partner, you can collect it from the Tourist Office at the current price.
The centre of the Flaine resort is at an altitude of 1,600m. The summit of the ski area is at 2,500m. In summer, the weather is generally ideal for enjoying all our activities and entertainment during the day. The evenings are cooler as soon as the sun disappears, so it's best to bring a jacket or fleece. It's not impossible for it to rain during your holiday in the mountains. That said, it's not an end in itself, because even in Flaine you can still find something to do indoors.
Mountain lakes are fishing lakes, so swimming is prohibited. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the nearest lakes where you can swim: Lac Bleu in Morillon, Lac des Îlettes in Sallanches, Lac de Passy facing Mont Blanc, Lac d'Annecy and Lac Léman.
The three nearest lakes to the resort are Lac de Flaine, Lac de Vernant and Lac de l'Airon. Every week, the Tourist Office offers supervised fishing workshops for all the family at Lac de Vernant and Lac de l'Airon.
There are no mountain pasture farms in the Flaine resort. Here is a non-exhaustive list of the nearest farms and cheese dairies: l'Alpage de l'Airon and Chèvrerie Pierre à Laya in Arâches, Fruitière de Samoëns and Fruitière de Haut Fleury in Mieussy.
When hiking with your dog, it must be kept on a lead. Most of your walks will be on pastureland, so there will be animals around (cows, sheep, etc.), often protected by guard dogs, so be careful! You may also come across animals such as chamois or ibex on your walks. Please note that you will not be able to walk with your dog in the Sixt/Passy nature reserve.
The car parks are free in summer, you can park in any car park, there is no height limit. However, there are no water and electricity points or chemical toilet emptying facilities.
