On arrival at the Désert de Platé, you will discover endless expanses of lapiaz as well as breathtaking views of the Mont-Blanc range.

To explore this unique geological site in Europe, two marked trails are available:

The Fossil Odyssey (red trail): this 3-hour loop takes you through a fascinating landscape of fossils and limestone crevasses. Not recommended for young children due to rough terrain and numerous crevasses; suitable for children over 9 years old depending on their hiking experience.

The Mont-Blanc Facing Odyssey (green trail): a 1-hour return route, ideal for a contemplative walk through the heart of the lapiaz, dotted with cairns and offering stunning views of Mont-Blanc. Follow the direction of the Désert Blanc chairlift.

Home :

- What equipment do you need? Water, sunglasses, hiking boots and a fleece. Dress warmly, because even in summer, temperatures plummet quickly at 2,500 metres.
- Where to eat? At the Bistrot de l'Odyssée, opposite Mont Blanc, a 1 km walk from the finish station. Otherwise, other restaurants are open throughout the summer in the resort.
- Don't forget your camera, the panorama is exceptional.

Free entry but transport fee applies. The round-trip cable car ride is subject to a fee: please make sure you have a pedestrian pass.

How to find us

To reach the departure point of the Grandes Platières cable car, follow the nautilus shells to Flaine Forum.

From Flaine Forêt, take the orange lifts that connect Flaine Forêt and Flaine Forum.

If you are coming by car, park at the P2 car park (free in summer), then follow the shells on foot for about 10 minutes to reach the cable car departure point.
